Brodie, Bowling and Ben and Jerry’s

I am amazed by all of the B&J ice cream flavours they have over here. I mean I am actually still in shock that we have only two shelves in the supermarket freezer section when they have this many over here….

A WHOLE FREEZER!

I wish we could sample each and everyone but I think I have found my fave already – chocolate peppermint crunch!! Mmmm delish.

The past few days (we still don’t know what day it is) have been full of activities and we really are having the best time in America.

For a while I had wanted to go bowling and so on Sunday we decided to head to the casino for a game or two. Ryan stretched out and practised his technique in the car park and we put on the very flattering bowling shoes ready for our game.

The side gutters are very annoying and my ball spent most of its time in one of the two, but we all got strikes and had lots of fun.

The men then grilled a chicken and smoked a salmon whilst drinking beer because that’s what men do and we had a lovely evening full of food, wine and chitter chatter.

Tom worked on Monday so Ryan came out with the gals and we went to Ironstone in Murphy’s to taste wine and have lunch. It was a lovely place – very quiet after thanksgiving with lovely Christmas decorations and a very grand bar.

We did some wine tasting whilst chatting with the bar man about Scotland and then sat amongst the stuffed animals and ate our soup.

On the way to Ironstone we had passed the Melones reservoir that had been badly affected by the California drought. About four years ago the water line was up to where the tree line is shown in the photo below and even at the beginning of the summer this year, it was up to the brown tree line. The water level now, looks similar to the original river and you can even see a low bridge from many many years ago that is still intact.

Rather scary!!

We headed home admiring the gorgeous trees and had another lovely evening. Ryan and Brodie retired to their usual nap spot in front of the fire (snoring included) They really are BFF’s and we have all fallen in love with her!

Today (Tuesday – I think?) Sue took me along to her ‘Barre’ class in town, which was fun, sweaty and rather tiring after not exercising for a LONG time. A good and much needed shock to the system!

Ryan had already been for a run this morning and Granny had walked around town so the exercise was done for the day and we got started on curry for dinner and planning our San Francisco trip later on this month.

Dinner was Scrummy and we were in bed by 10:30pm – holidaying is so tough you see!

Off to Sacramento for the night tomorrow to see the Christmas lights! Can’t wait!

R&E xx
